Last Saturday Al and I attended the 6th birthday celebration of his niece Cloud and the baptism of his nephew Forest Jude at the Oakwood Premier Joy-Nostalg Center in Ortigas.
It was a Frozen-themed party!
Cloud, of course, was dressed as Queen Elsa.
And she asked me to call her “Elsa D. Maniego,” haha!
Meanwhile, Baby Forest was dressed in a cute Olaf hoodie!
Here he is with his uncle and his sister Paisley, who came in as Anna.
There was a kiddie salon…
and a candy bar!
There was also a magic show and games for kids as well as for grownups.
Al won a prize for guessing the song “Ob-La-Di, Ob-La-Da,” so now I have a new Frozen pencil case. Hehe!
Moi with Cloud, with Forest, and with Al.
There was also an after-party for the adults, which was just as fun, but let’s not post those pictures here. ;)

Thirty years after forming the legendary Dead Ends during the nascent punk rock scene of the 80s, Al Dimalanta is still at it with the band Throw.
Punk will never die.

My only regret is that I did not read this book sooner.
It would be pointless to write a review of this marvelous book nearly two decades after it was first published, so let me just point you to one that was done much earlier: Neverwhere: It was never anywhere.
I really enjoyed my journey to London Below and I cannot wait to get started on my next Neil Gaiman book. But first, I’d like to get to know another author and a friend of Gaiman’s, Sir Terry Pratchett, so I started reading Equal Rites, the third book in his Discworld series. I’m liking it so far. :)

Al: Isang tanong, isang sagot. Gusto mo bang magkaron tayo ng dog?
I grew up fearing these friendly creatures because I got chased by one as a kid. I never had a pet (well I had a chick, as in a baby chicken, that I named Chickidee, and it lasted three days) but I did have the chance to take care of a Maltese for about a month when we dog-sat my brother-in-law’s sister’s dog Bugsy. Ok, fine. So I never did any poop-cleaning during his stay, but I did play with him and I think he liked me.
Anyway, I do find dogs cute and I’d choose them over cats any day. But I still don’t see myself as an owner of one because (1) it’s quite expensive to get a dog or any other animal companion these days, and (2) they stink. No matter how cute they are and how often you bathe them, they still have that distinct smell that I don’t find the least bit pleasant.
Al is not a fan of pets either, so my “no” reply was not a problem at all. I think he was even relieved that I answered in the negative, although he said he’d gladly welcome a puppy in our lives if that was what I wanted. That was really sweet and considerate of him. But no, I don’t want a dog. Not now, at least. Ayoko. ;)

Al’s acoustic gig got cancelled so I spent the whole Saturday at home reading Junot Díaz’s This is How You Lose Her, eating junk and drinking wine and tea.
